Leigh's Blitherings: The Network Is My Teacher

I find this interesting too, having daughters 12 and 17 who use technology in really innovative ways. I'm the publicist for WLU Press in Waterloo and we're publishing a book next year that is more about access to technology and how it affects kids' learning across demographics, but if you're interested in that check out this link http://www.wlu.ca/press/Catalog/looker.shtml

Peer2Peer networks are absolutely crucial to learning. Web 2.0 has created the opportunity to cut out the middle man and make the learner collaberative and innovative together.

About 80% of learning actually happens out of the classroom which makes sense since we learn primarily from our own experiences and through getting messy.

As someone who grew up in a school system where kids were forced to regurgitate info, I say 'hoorah' to self-directed learning through technology.

The next frontier is for organizations to wake up and realize that most learning is not being captured, shared or harnessed because: 1) no one has realized the potential value, 2) there is an over-realiance on 'expert-based' learning whether in the classroom or online.

I remember bringing in a Peer2Peer learning program in a couple of organizations (which by the way did really well) and the senior management initially pushed back. They were afraid that peers could not teach each other how to manage... who else should know more about their job then managers themselves?
